Dear Parents and Friends of Cascadia School,

Cascadia School opened in the fall of 1994 with a group of 27 lower elementary age students and two experienced teachers implementing Montessori education in rented classroom facilities. Since that time our school has grown to its present population of 128 students in five classrooms (two lower elementary classes of first through third grade students, two upper elementary classes of fourth through sixth graders, and a middle school class encompassing seventh and eighth grades). Each classroom has approximately 30 students and two teachers, for a 15 / 1 student-teacher ratio. All head teachers are Montessori certified (AMI) and also hold Washington State teaching credentials.

For a nominal charge, extracurricular classes are offered in piano, guitar, drama, violin, marimba, art and dance. Our before and after school child care program is offered from 7:00 to 8:00 am and from 3:30 to 6:00 pm and provides a stimulating environment of art, craft and play activities (indoor and outdoor) during the extended school day hours. Fees for child care are on the enclosed fee schedule.

In April, 2003, we moved into spacious new school facilities on a beautiful 2.5 acre campus at 10606 NE 14th St. in Vancouver, Washington. Our new school facilities have been designed to accommodate our current classroom and playground needs as well as to provide additional classroom space for elementary and middle school expansion, science / technology and library facilities, a child care classroom and additional space for music lessons and other special classes.

Our ongoing fundraising effort, the Cascadia Campaign, has raised the funds required for financing this $1.6 million project (Phase 1). Our capital campaign is unique in that it has been designed and implemented entirely by Cascadia parents on a volunteer basis. The Cascadia Campaign is currently funding Phase 2 design and construction plans for a library, science and technology center and additional classroom and extracurricular spaces. Additional funding in the form of grants and donations from philanthropic foundations is included in Phase 2 financing plans. Cascadia School is a non-profit corporation (501(c)(3)) and all contributions to the Cascadia Campaign are tax deductible.

As a non-profit corporation, Cascadia School is overseen by a Board of Trustees. Some of the trustees are parents of former or current Cascadia students. The board has prepared a long term growth and development plan to ensure that future staffing and financial requirements are met.

We look forward to having you visit our campus and meet our staff. Please call us at (360) 944-8096 for more information or to make an appointment for a visit.

Sincerely,

David Drakos
